Ninth graders from Mjær Middle School in Enebakk have participated in a digital hike about local war history using the Wittario app.
In collaboration with the Enebakk history club, the students experienced historical events from World War II in their local environment.
Active learning
The students walked a trail with twelve stations about the war in Ytre Enebakk. Instead of regular teaching, the students received an active and engaged learning method. Technology meets history The Wittario app guided the students and asked questions along the way.
Student experiences
The students were positive and found it more exciting than regular teaching. They enjoyed learning about local war history where they live.
Important local history
Tom Halvorsen, leader of the Romerike history club, emphasized the importance of place identity and belonging.
Learning in motion
Research shows that movement increases learning ability. Lars Gunnar Fledsberg from Wittario pointed out that people become more creative outdoors.
A Success
Marit Busengdal, leader of the Enebakk history club, was pleased and told about an existing game in Kirkebygda. Wittario's technology is in use in many countries, and the platform is easy to use to create your own learning games. This teaching shows how technology and active learning can create engagement in young people.
